Scoil Éanna is situated beside the Monastery Quay in the village of Roundstone, Co. Galway. It is a two teacher school catering for 38 children from the townlands of Murvey, Errisbeg, Ellistrim, Roundstone, Letterdyfe, Inis Ní and Tuaim Beola. The setting is exceptionally beautiful, with views of Roundstone Bay, Errisbeg Hill and Na Beanna Beola in the distance. Franciscan monks from Mountbellew founded a monastery on this site in 1835 and provided an education for boys until the monastery closed in the early seventies. Since 1977 Scoil Éanna has been co-educational. The children’s playground is a wonderful place, with trees, sloping areas, a natural rock formation among its many features, providing endless opportunities for imaginative play. Tree varieties include Cypress, elm, sycamore, oak, willow, pine and spruce so there is plenty of cover for bird life. These grounds, as well as their proximity to the rocky sea-shore just across the school wall , have contributed greatly to the development of the children’s interest and love of their magnificent natural environment.
